For new college graduates, Yuppies, Yappies, DINKS, DEWKS and any one of the other generational acronyms that may exist out there, the lure of living in New York City is often an extremely strong one!

And while that may indeed be the case, the reality of the cost of renting an apartment in New York may quickly place itself squarely in the path of the dream.

This issue of price is not necessarily a deal-breaker, however, as there are compromises that an individual or couple can make to achieve the goal of NYC habitation.

There are roommate finding services, turning two bedrooms into a three bedrooms by walling off the living room, living in a less desirable neighborhood, borough or perhaps maybe even living with grandma in her rent-controlled apartment.

Then there is always the possibility of working a second job at night for a little extra cash or, if you are really lucky, being subsidized by your parents.
