US Economic Calendar for the Week of June 16, 2014
The calendar in this article provides important information to anyone who’s concerned with the future direction of mortgage rates while, at the same time, is trying to determine the current condition as well as the future direction of the overall US economy.
This data scheduled for release during the upcoming week will most certainly provide actual evidence along with strong anecdotal clues.
The week is somewhat robust in terms of the volume of critical data points including indicators concerning the level of inflation from the CPI on Tuesday, housing starts also on Tuesday and of course the announcement Wednesday afternoon of the decisions and economic forecasts made at the FOMC meeting.
And, as has been the case for some time now, the markets will be watching geopolitical hotspots with the potential for serious flare-ups that could have global implications.
On the front-burner now is the escalating violence in Iraq as the radical militant group going by the name ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) moves steadily towards Baghdad leaving death and destruction in its wake.
From purely an economic standpoint oil prices have been surging as there is a fear that this insurgency and any potential spread beyond Iraq could disrupt oil exports from the region.
Finally, in conjunction with economic data and any potential breaking news, comments from Federal Reserve members both scheduled (FOMC on Wednesday) and impromptu will be parsed by market participants for possible clues about the future of monetary policy.
