US Economic Calendar for the Week of June 30, 2014
The economic calendar in this article provides important information concerning the direction that interest rates may move in the short and intermediate-term while providing anecdotal evidence of the current condition and potential future direction of the US economy.
While the July 4th holiday shortened week is somewhat light in terms of the volume of critical data points, it will include the ADP Employment Report on Wednesday at 8:15 AM and the 800-pound gorilla of economic data in the employment report for June to be released on Thursday at 8:30 AM (220,000 non-farm payroll jobs created and a 6.3% unemployment rate are forecast).
And, as has been the case for some time now, the markets will also be watching geopolitical hotspots that have the potential for serious flare-ups with global implications as well.
On the front-burner now is the continuing and escalating violence in Iraq as the radical militant group, ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria), moves steadily towards Baghdad leaving death and destruction in its wake.
From purely an economic standpoint oil prices have been surging as there is a fear that this insurgency and any potential spread beyond Iraq could disrupt oil exports from the region.
Newly arrived on the international crisis front is the potential fallout from the Ukrainian decision this morning to cement economic ties with the EU coupled with an unknown but logically anticipated response from Vladimir Putin and Russia.
Finally, in conjunction with economic data and any potential breaking news, comments from Federal Reserve members both scheduled and impromptu will be parsed by market participants for possible clues about the future direction of monetary policy and the tapering of bond purchases by the Fed.
