US Economic Calendar for the Week of July 14, 2014
The economic calendar in this article provides the days and times for this weeks key releases containing data that will potentially impact the direction interest rates may move in the short and intermediate-term.
In addition this economic data will provide investors and businesses both anecdotal evidence about the future direction of US economic growth and actual proof of its current condition.
And, with the July 4th holiday in the rear-view mirror, the upcoming week is fairly robust in terms of critical data points that will be released.
Some of the information that will be most closely scrutinized by market participants, the Fed, politicians and investors include retail sales for June, mortgage applications, the Beige Book, housing starts and leading economic indicators.
In conjunction with this economic data comments from Federal Reserve members, both scheduled and impromptu, will be parsed by market participants for possible clues about the future direction of monetary policy and hints about further tapering of bond purchases by the Fed.
This includes a speech by Fed Chair Janet Yellen Tuesday as she gives semi-annual monetary policy testimony to the Senate Banking Committee and Wednesday when she does the same for the House Financial Services Committee.
As has also been the case for some time now, in addition to the economy the markets will be watching geopolitical hotspots that have the potential for serious flare-ups with global implications.
Currently on the front-burner is the continuing and escalating violence in the Middle East as Israel seeks to eradicate the ability for Hamas to fire missiles from Gaza indiscriminately into its cities and towns.
Additionally, adding to the mix of geopolitical angst is the steady progress being made by the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, or ISIS as it moves towards Baghdad and the continued violence in Ukraine as political unrest and uncertainty persists.
