FCI: The cost of a day at the ballpark for a family of four!

With the NFL season opener right around the corner and the MLB season in full swing, thoughts naturally move to the cost of the stadium experience for a family of four!

New information that’s also bringing to mind the cost to experience a game live at the stadium versus in the comfort of a friends house or local tavern, is the price list just released for food and cheap seats at Levi Stadium, new home of the San Francisco 49ers.

With a base price of $85 for the worst seat in the house and $11.75 for an order of candy and water, the cost for a family of four to attend a game is a minimum of $340 if they choose to fast, walk to the stadium and eat on the way home.

Levi Stadium Food Price List

Beer: $10.25 for 20-ounce domestic and $11 for 18-ounce “premium” Frankfurter: $6.25 Sausage or bratwurst: $8.25 Soda: $5.25 for 21 ounces, 49ers souvenir soda cup: $7.50 Pizza: $8 per slice Garlic fries: $8.50 Nachos: $6 Bag of candy: $6 Water: $5.75 for a 20-ounce bottle Wine: $12 for a 7-ounce pour Tortas, barbecue sandwich or burger: $12

Tickets at the new stadium will start at $85.00 for nosebleed seats. (Source)

And, while the Fan Cost Index for the 2014 NFL season has yet to be released, this is Major League Baseball’s going team by team.

Major League Baseball 2014 Fan Cost Index

For a family of four going to the average MLB ballpark, the day is going to cost $212.48. This includes ‘four adult average-price tickets, two small draft beers, four small soft drinks, four regular-size hot dogs and parking for one car, two game programs and two least expensive, adult-size adjustable caps’.

A day at the most expensive ballpark, the Boston Red Sox, would run a cool $350.78 with the New York Yankees a close second at $337.20.

The cheapest are the Arizona Diamondbacks at the bargain-basement price of $126.85, although flying there from New York would eat-up any cost savings.

Conclusion? A day at the ballpark for a family of four, particularly given the current state of the economy, is not for everyone! (Chart source)
