US economic data due the week of August 4, 2014

US Economic Calendar for the Week of August 4, 2014

The economic calendar provided in this article gives the days and times for this weeks key economic releases containing data that will potentially impact the direction interest rates may move in the short and intermediate-term.

As this article is being released the disappointing jobs creation data released this morning has sparked a rally in the US 10-year bond that dropped 4 basis points to a level of 2.48%.

Next weeks economic data will also provide investors and businesses both anecdotal evidence about the direction US economic growth is heading in a along with actual proof of its current condition.

Some of the information that will be most closely scrutinized by the markets participants, the Fed, politicians and investors includes retail sales data, jobless claims and new purchase applications.

In the upcoming week there are no speeches scheduled for members of the FOMC although impromptu comments can occur at any time.

And finally, as has also been the case for some time now, in addition to the economy the markets will also be closely watching geopolitical hotspots that have the potential for serious flare-ups with global implications.

Currently on the front-burner geopolitically are the following crises, a list that unfortunately continues to grow:

• The Argentina sovereign debt default,
• The Israel-Hamas conflict in the Middle East,
• Russia-Ukraine conflict,
• The goings on at the US-Mexico border,
• The Ebola breakout and its potential to spread,
• ISIS in Iraq.
