US Economic Calendar for the Week of August 11, 2014

The economic calendar provided in this article gives the days and times for this weeks key economic releases that will contain data that will potentially impact the direction interest rates may move in the short and intermediate-term.

This economic information will also provide investors and businesses both anecdotal evidence about the direction that the US economy is heading along with actual proof of its current condition.

Some of the data that will be most closely scrutinized by the markets participants, the Fed, politicians and investors includes retail sales, consumer sentiment and the producer price index that will provide a clue of inflationary pressures in the U.S..

Also in the upcoming week Stanley Fischer, William Dudley, Eric Rosengren and Narayana Kocherlakota of the Federal Reserve are scheduled to speak with other impromptu comments potentially occurring at any time as well.

And finally, as has been the case for some time now, in addition to the economy the markets will also be closely watching geopolitical hotspots that have the potential for serious flare-ups with global implications.

Currently on the front-burner geopolitically are the following crises, a list that unfortunately continues to grow:

• Limited airstrikes on ISIS positions in Iraq,
• Israel-Hamas conflict,
• Russia-Ukraine conflict,
• Crisis at the US-Mexico border,
• The Ebola breakout and its potential to spread,
• Potential for coup overthrowing the Maliki government in Iraq.
