November 4th cast your vote like it’s an important decision…

…Because it is!

SummaryIn some cases people may choose not to vote or, if they do, put as much thought into the process as they might picking an entree at a restaurant when they go out for dinner.

In this non-partisan look at November 4th, neither one of these two choices is really very good!

This is a non-partisan PSA concerning the right to vote and responsibility that we have as Americans to vote.

After all the men and women that we send to represent us at all levels of government are theoretically there as proxies for you and I, the people in their voting district whether it’s on the local, state or federal level.

And while in many instances that representation of the peoples wishes may unfortunately not seem to be occur in actual practice, it is no less our duty to turn out and vote for the man or woman we believe will do the best job representing our wishes.

And what recourse do we have if it turns out that what our politicians have said that they would do was not actually done?

The bottom-line is that if those in office now have not fulfilled the promises they made to get elected, vote them out.

If they have done what they said they would do and you like that philosophy, vote to keep them in office.

But know the facts, positions and past of the people whom you are pulling the lever for going in!

No longer, in my opinion, is it a valid voting method to simply go down the line and pull the lever for those candidates in the political party that you think represents your interests or that your parents and their parents before them always voted for.

The internet is a powerful tool that has made it fairly easy to do a little research on both incumbents and those who oppose them.

And given the enormous responsibility and power that these representatives will have, isn’t a little research warranted?

Imagine if the level of thought and preparation many of us put into voting went into the process of selecting a new hire to work for us and to represent our firm!

You may still be asking yourself how can I take voting for a politician as seriously as I take the critical and well thought out process of considering the credentials of a potential new hire to my firm?

After all politics are politics and my single vote does not have any bearing on the outcome of an election…right?

And if I do happen to vote I will simply pull the lever for candidates who come from whatever party that I feel philosophically the closest to because that’s how I have always done it!

Well once again ask yourself whether that process of choosing your representation, whether Democrat or Republican, has worked well for you in the past.

In other words have those you have chosen to represent you, assuming that your candidate won, actually done what they said they were going to do?

Did they have the faith of their convictions to stand-up and dissent when others in their political party were going the other way?

Did they take the initiative and propose new legislation or become involved in critical and important committees that in effect gave you, their constituent, a voice in the process?

Did they actually represent and fight for the concerns of the people who voted them into office or simply take up issues with broader appeal as they aspire to move their political careers to the next level?

Did they get into office and simply go along to get along and spend the majority of their time raising money for the next election?

Elections Have Consequences!

Once again remember that few in a position of choosing an employee would take a seat of the pants approach to the process and, if they did, they would likely not be in that position for very long.

So when it comes time to vote on November 4, make an informed decision for the people who will be representing you and your interests for years to come.
