For anyone who is paying attention to newspaper, television and radio ads, the title of this article will not come as any great surprise.

It seems that an emphasis on sales over family and holiday, as important as the health of the economy is to everyone who is reading this, flies in the face of what the true meaning of this season was supposed to be all about!

Black Friday definedThe day after Thanksgiving in the United States. Retailers generally see an upward spike in sales and consider this to be the start of the holiday shopping season. It’s common for retailers to offer special promotions and to open early to draw in customers…The idea behind the term “Black Friday” is that this is the day in which retail stores have enough sales to put them “in the black” – an accounting expression that alludes to the practice of recording losses in red and profits in black. (Source)

Meaning of Christmas: The annual Christian festival celebrating Christ’s birth, held on December 25 in the Western Church.

Meaning of Hanukkah: It celebrates two miracles –a great Jewish military victory and a miraculous supply of oil for the Holy Temple.

Meaning of Thanksgiving: An annual national holiday marked by religious observances and a traditional meal including turkey. The holiday commemorates a harvest festival celebrated by the Pilgrims in 1621, and is held in the US on the fourth Thursday in November.
